For a while now, the trend of skinny ties have returned. It's not so surprising because trends tend to fluctuate. Skinny jeans that are in now were also in back in the 80's and early 90's. Don't believe me? Go Google up early pictures of Ice Cube, Zack Morris, and all of the other cool male figures.
But can something be too good, or in this case..too skinny? Personally, I think yes. The super skinny ties I've seen are only 1.5'' wide. While that may be cool looking for now, it can be ancient looking when the trend dies down. And something that's 3''+ or more in width will make you look like a tacky used car salesman.
Personally I think a happy medium is the solution. If you're on the more fit physique side, something like a 2-3'' wide spec would work well. I prefer a 2.5'' myself. This is something I'm going for now. A timeless look that can be worn today or in 10 years.

Oh, and add a tie bar or tie clip for an even more of a slick look!
